Bio
After moving from Columbus, Ohio, at a young age, DJ Mordecai set up shop in the suburbs of Richmond, Virginia. He slowly developed a taste for hip-hop (and music in general) and started DJ’ing in his junior year of high school. (He had begun experimenting with making beats one year prior.) Since rocking parties in 1999–at eighteen–he has spun at numerous clubs and a wide variety of venues throughout Richmond and along the East Coast. Highlights include 7 Deadly Cities b-boy battle in Virginia Beach, a filmed-for-TV performance at The Canal Club in Richmond, and guest DJ appearances at The W hotel rooftop in Washington, DC. He enjoys spinning on the radio —he hosts the “Richmond Soul Stew” radio show at University of Richmond’s station. He also loves digging for lost gems in record bins everywhere! Mordecai made his solo mix debut in 2006 with “Elementary ’80s”, followed by “Boyoing Funk Mix” (2007), “Glare” hip-hop mix (2009), “Survival Mode” b-boy mix (2009), and his latest — “Columbian Necktie.” DJ Mordecai plans to release more break-oriented mixes in 2012. He is currently working on a new promo mix to be released soon.
